DC HDPE 75 til recirkulerende akvakultursystemer

Add the media in 2–3 batches to avoid accumulation caused by adding too much at once. Carry out ‘sealed aeration’: stop water inflow and outflow during the addition process and carry out continuous aeration (for approximately 5–8 days). At the start of the sealed aeration period, crushed powdered feed may be added in proportion to the media as a nutrient source. Specialised aerobic denitrifying bacterial inoculants may be added to help these bacteria colonise the media preferentially.

How can biofilm be established more quickly on MBBR media in recirculating aquaculture systems?

What should be done about MBBR media accumulation and poor fluidisation in recirculating aquaculture systems?

Ensure uniform aeration, as this provides the driving force for media fluidisation. Check whether the aeration discs or pipes are blocked or unevenly distributed. An excessively high packing density (e.g. exceeding 40 per cent) is a common cause of agglomeration. This should be dynamically adjusted according to the water quality load; a packing density of around 30–35 per cent is generally recommended. Check whether the media retention screens are blocked by biofilm or debris.

Why is the DC 75 HDPE MBBR MEIDA suitable for use in high-density recirculating aquaculture systems?

1. Høj specifikt overfladeareal

DC 75 has a specific surface area of >1,600 m²/m³, providing ample attachment space for nitrifying bacteria, which helps improve ammonia-nitrogen removal efficiency in recirculating aquaculture systems and maintain a more stable water quality environment.

2. 75-hulsstruktur for stabil biofilmvækst

The DC 75 features a 75-hole structure that provides microorganisms with abundant internal channels and external attachment surfaces, promoting more uniform and stable biofilm growth while reducing biofilm loss caused by water flow or aeration.

3. Suitable for Nitrification in RAS Biofilters

In recirculating aquaculture systems, fish waste and uneaten feed continuously produce ammonia nitrogen, which must be continuously removed through biological filtration. The DC 75 provides a favorable environment for nitrifying bacteria to attach and grow, helping to convert harmful ammonia nitrogen into less toxic substances and thereby maintaining stable water quality in the aquaculture system.

4. Fremragende fluidiseringsevne

DC 75 has a density of 0.94–0.97 g/cm³, which is close to that of water. When driven by aeration or water circulation, the media can maintain a good state of suspension and fluidization within the biological filter, enabling sufficient contact between the aquaculture water, dissolved oxygen, and the biofilm, thereby improving the efficiency of biological filtration.

5. Commonly Used in RAS Systems

Due to its high specific surface area, stable structural design, and excellent biofilm formation properties, DC 75 is a commonly used biological filter media in recirculating aquaculture systems and is particularly suitable for projects with high requirements for nitrification efficiency and ammonia-nitrogen control.

6. Lavet af 100% hvid jomfruelig HDPE

The DC 75 is made from 100% virgin white HDPE material and offers excellent chemical stability, corrosion resistance, and weather resistance, making it suitable for long-term use in recirculating aquaculture systems and biological filters at fish farms.

7. Lang levetid

The DC 75 has a service life of up to 15 years, which reduces the frequency of media replacement and lowers the long-term operating and maintenance costs of recirculating aquaculture systems.

8. Fleksibelt fyldningsforhold

The fill rate of the DC 75 ranges from 15% to 65% and can be flexibly adjusted based on the species being farmed, stocking density, feed intake, ammonia-nitrogen load, and biological filter design requirements, making it suitable for recirculating aquaculture systems of various scales.

9. Suitable for Medium and Large Biofilters

The DC 75 has dimensions of Φ25×4 mm. Combined with its high specific surface area, this makes it suitable for use in medium- to large-scale RAS biofilters, and it is particularly well-suited for projects with high requirements for biological filtration capacity and long-term operational stability.

How can you tell if biofilm formation has been successful?

Do not rely solely on visual inspection. Biofilm formed within the last 30 days is virtually invisible to the naked eye; only a slight change in the colour of the media may be noticeable. The correct way to assess this is by testing the water quality: when the concentrations of ammonia-nitrogen and nitrite at the outlet of the biological reactor are significantly lower than those at the inlet, this confirms that biofilm formation has been successful and that the biofilm has begun to function.

Why is the MBBR media floating on the water’s surface in large quantities rather than sinking?

During the initial period after new MBBR media is introduced, it is normal for it to float due to its hydrophobic surface. The wetting and fluidisation process can be accelerated as follows:
Solution: Sprinkle water onto the surface of the MBBR media. Increase the aeration intensity appropriately to help the media tumble and become wetted.
